Women of the revolution

The theme for this year's International Women's Day is #ChooseToChallenge, and we cannot imagine a better theme for us here at the Compost Revolution.

Every day women step up and lead the revolution in food waste avoidance, nurturing their gardens, families and communities. In fact 2 out of 3 people who join the revolution are women.

So it's fitting that the front-lines of the revolution are nurtured by two impressive women in Alex King and Ishka Bless. We are indeed blessed to have had both of them join us in the past year and a half, and the difference that they have made to the strategic, operational and cultural health of the revolution cannot be overstated.

Alex King and Ishka Bless - Food waste Revolutionaries

Today I wanted to acknowledge Alex and Ishka in particular, but also the huge role that many women have played in making this platform what it is today. From the team at Digital Eskimo who co-designed and launched the first pilot of the platform (inc. Anika Ebner, Yvonne Lee, Candice Quartermaine, Stephanie Lee, Carli Leimbach, Natasha Webb amongst others), programmer Julie Barbic from the Interaction Consortium, Shann Akkersdyk, Sasha Mainsbridge, Andia Cally, volunteer legend Andrea Dell, marketing strategist Teljya Oka-Pregel, waste researcher Jenni Downes, designer Cynthia Colli, and our social marketing guru Dawn Uchida to name a few.

To all of these women and the (often) women who drive real sustainable change at councils across Australia, as well as the more than 43,300 women who have joined us on our mission to create a greener, more abundant and nurturing world – I say thank you. Without you humanity would literally not only not exist right now, but it won't in the near future either!
